Amina

This drawing is a portrait of my friend Amina who is Muslim and has chosen to wear the hijab. However, her hijab has been replaced with the words "Are you really choosing?" She was often asked this question by people who believe that the hijab is a form of oppression for Muslim women. However, the hijab is an expression of faith and modesty. She was not forced to wear it but chose to wear it. Her hijab is not something debilitating but empowering because she has control over what parts of her people see and openly professes her faith in Islam.

She breaks beyond the confines of society and looks to Allah.
