Hind Rajab

Based on the true story of the six-year-old Palestinian girl, Hind Rajab, who was killed by an Israeli tank alongside her six relatives and her rescuers, I wanted to immortalize her pleas for help. Using the words from her call with the emergency operator, I sought to give the voiceless a voice. Inspired by cinema and graphic novels, I created scenes that juxtaposed the power and inhumanity of the tank with the helplessness, humanity, and innocence of Hind. The black and white illustrate the bleakness of wartorn Gaza, while the selective use of color creates dramatic focal points. Likewise, the only words throughout the story are her words, giving them gravity and immediacy.
